Casting 1M (presents as 17 years old). All ethnicities welcome
Claire has a rare form of psychogenic amnesia that erases her memory whenever she goes to sleep. This morning, like all mornings, she wakes up a blank slate. Her chipper husband comes in with a cup of coffee, explains her condition, hands her a book filled with all sorts of essential information, and he disappears into the shower. A limping, lisping, half-blind, half-deaf man in a ski mask pops out from under her bed and claims to be her brother, there to save her. Claire's info book is quickly discarded, and she's hustled off to the country-house of her mother, a recent stroke victim whose speech has been reduced to utter gibberish. Claire's journey gets even more complicated when a dimwitted thug with a foul-mouthed hand puppet pops up at a window, and her driven husband and perpetually stoned son show up with a claustrophobic lady-cop that they've kidnapped. Every twist and turn in this funhouse plot bring Claire closer to revealing her past life and everything she thought she'd forgotten.
It's one harrowing and hilarious turn after another on this roller coaster ride through the day of an amnesiac trying to decipher her fractured life. This poignant and brutal comedy traces one woman's attempt to regain her memory while surrounded by a curio-cabinet of alarmingly bizarre characters.
Pinned Butterfly by Adam Esquenazi Douglas – A WORLD PREMIERE – directed by Peet Cocke.

When the members of BKPRIDE decide to hold the very first Brooklyn Gay Pride March, a handful of secrets ignite, turning what should be a celebration of self into a scathing dissection of bisexual erasure, prejudice within the LGBT community, and what happens to love left out in the sun. As marching drums beat in the distance, war brews among lovers, enemies, and hearts.
Pinned Butterfly is a new play exploring the issue of bisexual erasure within the LGBT community. In keeping with our commitment to new playwrights and new work, B8 is pleased to present this searing look into a rarely-discussed problem.
A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare, directed by JanLee Marshall
Performances June 13-29, 2019.
Casting 15 actors. All ages, all ethnicities welcome.
A classic comedy of love, royalty, fairies, and magic — with a B8 Twist. Come join us to see the women play all the traditionally male roles and the men play all the traditionally female roles. Let’s see what happens to a world of male dominance when the tables are turned.
What work would you like to see B8 do? As a member of the Community, Actor, Director, Designer, or Playwright, we want to hear your ideas! Maybe you’ve found a play or musical you’d like to see, or direct, or design, or act in; there could be a director (or designer, or actor) you’d like us to consider as you think they would work well with B8; perhaps you’ve come across a playwright who might have a new work that fits in with our mission (or you’ve written something yourself!); maybe you found a piece of literature that would make a great adaptation — anything you would like to bring to our attention, we want to know about it!
Just fill out our Project Proposal Form (the instructions are included in the .pdf) and submit to Artistic Director JanLee Marshall at firstname.lastname@example.org or by mail to B8 Theatre Company, ATTN: Project Proposals, PO Box 5175, Concord, CA 94524-0175.
